Sense of Place as Concept of Social Memory
The article concerns to the problem of construction the mechanisms of individual and social identity through a sense of place. The author considers a sense of place as individual and social perception of locus that could accumulate specific experience of place and motivate the local identity based on this perception.

Memory of War : Paradox of Forgetting
The article is devoted to the problem of cultural memory and forgetting. The main case of the article is concerned with social memory processes of the First World War in modern Russian society. The Great War was completely repressed in Russian memory for many years. But now this war is the good example of memory constructing without massive ideological suppression.

Correspondence: by the Tracks of Our Roads
The correspondence is a holistic system; and it’s complexity requires the use of various methods: linguistic and semiotic methods in the frame of a general theory of communication, and specific methods associated with culture-centered attitudes (estimation past, envy, " naïve" discourse, private/ public boundaries, nostalgia, social remarkability, achievability , commemoration) for the research. The author's project is directed to creating fundamental socio-cultural models of correspondence, the reconstruction of the evolution of cultural practices and strategies for its construction.

Humanitarian Excursions of the early 20th Century. From Memory to History, from History to Memory
The article deals with humanitarian excursions of the early 20th century as means of overcoming historical crisis at the turn of the century («fin de siècle»). An important issue is a study of meaning of the following words “an excursionist”, “an excursion” and a “tourist” at different times. The author of the article attempts to show tourist development and excursions conditions, which were not treated as a way to commercialize. Excursions of the early 20th century are viewed as commemorative practices used for individual and collective self-identification.

The Body of Power: Censorship as a Cultural Concept
The establishment, institutional formalization and dynamics of the Russian censorship are considered in this article. The censorship is presented as a component of the "body of power" and the "body of culture". By analyzing the changes of the censorship laws, censorship practices, features of the dialogue between the authorities and the public on issues of the right of free speech in Russian Empire, the USSR, the Russian Federation, the author considers the relevance of the problem to today's information society.
Key words: The "body of power", institutional formalization of the censorship, anatomy of the power, the control, the information taboo, the legal regulation, media space, on-line mass-media.

New Prison Subcultures: Power, Low and Force in Modern Russian Cinema
Cultural codes by which prison subculture is represented in modern cinema are analyzed in the article. The purpose of the study is to determine the reasons for the formation of a unique cultural code of the prison subculture, its values and standards are used in modern cinema. The article also shows cultural patterns of the interaction between marginal prison subculture and official culture.

Spiritual Grounds of Creativity in S.L. Frank’s Philosophy
The research in spiritual grounds of culture is connected with creative work. Philosophical tradition of Russia, namely S.L. Frank, considered it ontologically as organic, targeted and dynamic mode of being, interaction with all forms of life.

Empirical Research of the Evolution of the Artistic Life and Measurement Possibilities: Analysis of Some Concepts
The article analyzes the basic concepts of the evolution of the artistic life, related to a strictly formalized quantitative methods and mathematical models. The studies of evolutionary dynamics of the artistic life, made under the Colin Martindale’s School (the concept of “arousal potential”) are considered. The diverse empirical studies of the artistic life based on the basic provisions of the system-information paradigm (Abraham Mole, Sergey Yu. Maslov, German A. Golitsyn Vladimir M. Petrov) are systematized. The author notes the general heuristic potential use of quantitative models and quantitative methods in the study of the evolution of the artistic style of life and the various forms of art, explains the mechanism of periodic variation of the artistic life and is a condition of its evolution, emphasizes the presence of 50-year cycles of vibration in the socio-psychological sphere and art.

The Inner Form of Language and Cultural Dynamics
The article is devoted to the question of a culture development in its unity and diversity. It is believed that each culture is characterized by its language: national – national, scientific – research, art – art ones, etc. It is alleged that empirical diversity of culture languages is caused by variety of external forms, often random. However, the coexistence and the dynamics direction of external forms are due to both the inner form of each culture language and inner form of culture in general. Inner form is a virtual base of culture, purpose and way of being.

The Mode of Play Communication and Creativity
The article deals with the problem of correlation between communication modes and the category of creativity. It assumes that creativity as an anthropological category is based on the mode of play communication. The author describes concept of play which is understood as interpretation, epistemic modality of communication, expressed in a process of communication. The mode of play can be expressed by means of various mechanisms like parody, irony, cosmism, laugh, satire, humor, etc., based on the idea of recoding, reevaluating, rethinking, creativity, novelty, i.e. on the idea of cultural creativity. The article analyzes various definitions of the concept of play, investigates its communicative mechanisms, its nature and interpretations in various cultural paradigms. The author describes linguistic characteristics of play and playing genres of literature, including such literary forms of discourse as: travesty, burlesque, parody, satire, comedy, tragical comedy, anecdotes, nonsense poetry, limerick, etc.

Laughter as a Form of Communication Process
The article regards role and place of laughter in communication process. The elements of TV culture (humorous programs and their content) are taken as an empirical material. The author makes a conclusion that laughter can take any place among the elements of a communication process in various ways. Moreover, laughter and laughable things can be a special form of а communication process by themselves.

Traditional and Innovative Aspects of the Communicative Potential of Cinema
The author of this article conciders the problem of communication. Its radically innovative aspect is considered in the context of the nature of film language. Communicative potential of film is shown. The impotent factor of communicative mission of cinema is associated with his involvement in mass culture. Change of representative techniques is a signal of formation of a new cultural landscape. Therefore, the historical space of cinema is a series of searches of ways of "mastering reality".

Double-World: Axiology and Typology of the Toys
The world of toys as system expressing diverse valuable meanings is undertaken. Traditional typologies and classifications of toys are offered, the typologies leaning on the philosophical and esthetic bases are presented. «Kenotypic» (M. N. Epstein's term) toys, representing innovative crystallization of experience in a material form, «a prototype possible» are shown. Distinction between archetypic toys and kenotypic toys reflects interaction of traditions and innovations in culture. Specificity of a mimesis in the world of a toy is comprehended. The toy is understood as the universal model expressing the real culture values, but not declared ones. We assume that syncretism of a toy allows to keep some special forms of perception.

The Culinary Metaphor as a Cultural Model of the World in the Literature of the 20th Century
Gastronomic images from the particular literary works written by iconic authors of 20th century (such as Marcel Proust, Thomas Mann, Erich Maria Remarque, Michael Cunningham as well as Ivan Shmelyov and Anton Chekhov) are considered in this article. The role of culinary metaphor in creation of cultural picture of the world is also touched upon here. The category of taste is interpreted as boundary in the contact of imaginary and real, sublime and inferior, spirit and mundane dimensions of artistic consciousness. The compound of food code (at the level of taste, smell, form, color, consistency, structure) makes it possible to understand the art space as an intertext, as a model of the world, which dominant cultural image performs sensemaking metaphor.
